Boonsri Dickinson is a science journalist based
in New York City. After graduating with a master’s degree in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Dickinson flew to New
York City to work for Discover Magazine. “I’ve fallen in love with my job and
New York City,” Dickinson says. “Work doesn’t seem like work, I love talking to
top scientists about edgy ideas and enjoy learning about new things.
Unfortunately, I don’t feel the need to travel as much because exploring New
York is fulfilling in its own way.”

At Discover Magazine, Dickinson has grown
as a journalist, and considers her job the perfect one: for it combines her
training as a scientist, with her passion for writing. As the assistant to the
Editorial Director, Patti Adcroft, Dickinson has learned more than just what
makes a good story, including what makes a good magazine, the importance of
branding, and how magazines can go beyond being a product and become a public
service. Dickinson previously worked for Bob Guccione Jr., the former CEO and
Publisher at Discover and a successful magazine entrepreneur having launched
both SPIN and GEAR. Under Guccione, she learned how to think about big ideas,
how to expand business opportunities, and how to write. When Dickinson is not
closing an issue, she’s looking for news story that will catch her eye. Having
written on topics from space to custom made jeans to what it means to be alive
to what the effects of ecstasy on bonding are -- anything interesting and
related to science is fair game. She’s currently writing a “life-changing”
feature story (see Discover’s September issue).
